A toothbrush and toothpaste each have a different job.
We brush our teeth every day, yet rarely stop to ask what the toothbrush and toothpaste are each responsible for.
When developing TOOTHGEL, THE began by reconsidering these two roles.
The toothbrush physically removes residue attached to the tooth surface, while toothpaste contributes through its formulation.
This does not make brushing any less important. THE continues to emphasize careful, thorough brushing so that the toothbrush and toothpaste can each do their part.
THREE THINGS THAT MATTER
01｜99% naturally derived ingredients
The small amount of ingredients needed for extraction and stability is stated honestly, rather than replaced by a more attractive number.
02｜Hinokitiol and the reason behind the material
Hinokitiol is at the core of the formulation and is sourced from offcuts and wood chips produced during Aomori HIBA processing.
03｜Translucent gel texture
No abrasives, foaming agents, titanium dioxide, or colorants are added. It is also suitable for use with electric toothbrushes.
WHY HINOKITIOL
Why hinokitiol?
THE TOOTHGEL places hinokitiol at the core of its formulation.
Hinokitiol was first discovered in the resin of Taiwanese hinoki cypress. The hinokitiol used in this product is obtained from offcuts and wood chips created during the processing of Aomori HIBA.
THE does not assume that natural is necessarily superior to synthetic. What matters to the manufacturer is whether, when natural and synthetic sources offer comparable functions, existing resources can be used more thoughtfully.
This is not about adding another attractive adjective to the product. It is about ensuring that every material choice has a reason.
99% NATURAL ORIGIN
99% naturally derived ingredients
THE TOOTHGEL is made with 99% naturally derived ingredients.
It is not labeled 100% because the formulation still contains liquids required for extracting plant-derived ingredients and a small amount of ingredients needed to maintain product stability. THE chooses to explain this remaining 1% honestly rather than replace it with a more attractive number.
LESS, FOR A REASON
Less, so the essentials can stay in focus
THE reconsidered the ingredients commonly found in toothpaste and chose:
● No added abrasives
● No added foaming agents
● No added titanium dioxide
● No added colorants
Without abrasives or foaming agents, THE places the physical removal of residue where it belongs: with proper brushing, rather than relying on abundant foam or an abrasive sensation.
Without titanium dioxide or colorants, the paste does not need to be made artificially white. What you see is its translucent gel texture.
TEXTURE & USE
Gel texture and feel
The translucent gel spreads evenly on a toothbrush, produces no large amount of foam during use, and is suitable for electric toothbrushes.
Although no foaming agent is added, a small amount of foam may still form from the solubilizing ingredient used to keep the contents evenly mixed. This is normal.
The product is labeled fragrance-free. Peppermint oil is used as a flavor-adjusting ingredient, not as an added fragrance intended to create a strong scent.

According to the original Japanese product information, THE TOOTHGEL was developed as a quasi-drug toothpaste, with hinokitiol used as its active ingredient.
